The Pie Den tells the story of Dennis ‘Den’ Newman as he prepares for his first pie & mash sale at the Blue Market, celebrating its community significance and reminding us that it’s never too late to do what you love.

Den was the caterer on the BBC TV show I was assisting on. We shared good banter. One day, he made us all pies. The joy, energy and care that he put into making those pies, was quite something. Everyone loved them, including Director Susan Tully, who played Michelle Fowler in EastEnders, an iconic TV show particularly meaningful for Londoners of Den's generation. Sue loved them so much, that she said they were the best she ever had, and trust me, she's knows about pies.

So this was actually a test run for a business that Den was about to start. The more I heard about his mission, the more I realised that I was witnessing a great story in the making. Within a day, I launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund the production. Thanks to the generous support of friends, family, cast and crew, we met our funding target and made the film a reality.

The Pie Den marks the moment that both myself & Den took a big leap, leaving large-scale productions behind, to focus on our passions. We had a great time making this and we hope you enjoy it! The film garnered more views online than we expected and was then screened at Saatchi & Saatchi, where it won the audience choice award at The Shiny Awards Showcase.

Fun fact: the Millwall Stadium (next door to the market) is nicknamed the 'Den'... decent play on words right?
